Polygon blockchain used as a basis for data storage by police — all for transparency

11:06 am, October 16, 2022

An Indian police unit in Firozabad in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh has launched an online complaint portal on the Polygon platform.

The pilot portal, Policecomplaintonblockchain. in, uses the immutability of blockchain technology, which means that complaints cannot be altered or deleted by either the police department or the complainant. «This was necessary to ensure transparency,» Ashish Tiwari, senior superintendent of police in Firozabad, said in a tweet.

According to the portal, complaints can be filed from anywhere and will be forwarded to the relevant police jurisdictions.

«We were horrified to learn about the real number of cases where victims (mostly of rape) cannot even file a complaint due to corruption in the local police station. This could be a game changer for the right to justice,» said Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon.
