Blockchain technologies will be used to protect patients' medical data
Kali Durgampudi, Chief Technology Officer of healthcare payment company Zelis, urged medical institutions to use blockchain technologies, which, according to Durgampudi, can protect customers' personal data and prevent cybercriminals from attacking them.
According to Kali Durgampudi, one of the biggest challenges in the healthcare sector is data privacy and security, as the industry is still working on digitizing its «archaic paper processes.» Zelis emphasized that blockchain technologies are indispensable in the medical sector, as information in the blockchain cannot be changed or copied, and thus, hospital technical systems are many times more protected from cyberattacks.
Perhaps blockchain technologies could have helped US medical institutions protect their databases from the recent attack by South Korean hackers who received about $ 500,000 from medical institutions — all in order to regain access to the hospital system lost due to a cyberattack.
