Cryptocurrencies are being stolen more often
ZachXBT, an independent blockchain detective, warned his followers on social network X about the increase in robberies of cryptocurrency holders — criminals are tracking down and attacking their victims not online, but live.
ZachXBT said that in the past few months, he has received many messages from victims from Western Europe. The blockchain detective wrote that he knew several people from the crypto community who were held at gunpoint and threatened with death if they did not transfer their cryptocurrencies to the criminals.
For example, in June, $ 4.3 million in cryptocurrency was stolen from one user X during a home robbery. Due to a data breach, the thieves used the user’s personal information and found out his residential address. The criminals researched and tracked the victim, and then entered the victim’s house armed with machetes under the guise of parcel deliverymen.
They forced the victim to transfer all the cryptocurrency to two addresses. ZachXBT noted that both addresses are still inactive. «This story should serve as a warning. Let’s hope the thieves are arrested. To protect yourself, do not share personal information and details about your digital assets with friends, do not brag about cryptocurrencies on social media,» ZachXBT warned.
