Cryptocurrency developers present innovative bitcoin protection against quantum attacks
Cryptocurrency developers have presented a new initiative aimed at increasing the resistance of bitcoin BTC $118,803.89 Bitcoin -0.44% Market capitalization $2.36 trillion VOL. 24 hours $1.78 billion to possible attacks using quantum computers. Experts propose to implement a protocol update that will protect users in the event of a real threat from quantum technologies.
The idea is to create a special mechanism that will allow bitcoin owners to transfer funds to new addresses in advance using post-quantum cryptographic algorithms. This will help avoid the risk that quantum computers will be able to decrypt traditional public keys and gain access to other people’s assets.
It is also emphasized that the proposed mechanism does not require immediate updating of the entire network, but can be implemented gradually and at the request of users. This will preserve the decentralized nature of the system and avoid serious blockchain failures.
The developers call on the community to discuss the proposal and make changes to the Bitcoin protocol to prepare the ecosystem for future challenges associated with the development of quantum technologies. At the same time, it is emphasized that the threat from quantum computers remains theoretical, but preparation for it is extremely important for the long-term security of the network.
According to experts, the introduction of post-quantum encryption methods will be a key step to maintain trust in bitcoin in a world of rapid technological progress.
