Cryptocurrency fraudsters stole cryptocurrency from 42 thousand Bluesky users
The social network Bluesky, which has reached over 21 million users, has faced a wave of cryptocurrency fraud. Over the past few days, the platform has received more than 42,000 complaints about fake posts, which has caused serious concern among users.
It is reported that the fraudulent scheme uses the names of well-known brands and personalities to publish fake posts promoting dubious crypto assets.
For example, fraudsters distribute fake ads using the name of Meta and Mark Zuckerberg’s image to promote fake cryptocurrencies MetaChain and MetaCoin.
At the same time, the website promoted by the fraudsters, MetaChain[.]cash, imitates the style of the Meta brand, misleading users.
Publications promising up to $ 900,000 in bitcoin were also found, redirecting victims to fraudulent sites.
In some cases, fragments of popular TV shows and popular hashtags were used to increase the reach.
Bluesky reports more than 42,000 complaints in the last 24 hours alone. This is a record number for a platform that averages about 3,000 complaints per hour.
The growing popularity of the network has led to an increase in the activity of spammers and fraudsters.
The platform’s administration is stepping up moderation and encouraging users to report suspicious posts using special tools. However, the network architecture makes it difficult to fight fraud, and the platform is looking for new approaches to protect its users.
