Cryptocurrency investor loses $ 25 million due to a virtual assistant’s error
A cryptocurrency trader lost $ 25 million because he used a withdrawal bot to send Renzo tokens REZ $0.04 Renzo 2.22% Market capitalization $66.34 million VOL. 24 hours $5.19 million to the wrong address.
It is noted that instead of sending the tokens to a secure wallet, the user mistakenly sent them to the platform’s secure module, blocking the funds in a contract that cannot be accessed without intervention.
The affected trader said that the error occurred when the user tried to use the bot to withdraw funds, and a simple copy and paste error led to the disaster.
After that, the trader published an appeal offering a reward of $ 2.5 million for any help in recovering the tokens.
It is reported that if the right wallet was chosen, the user would be able to control the funds, but currently they are locked in a contract that cannot be accessed without Renzo’s help.
The founder of DeFiLlama, known as 0xngmi, said that the only way to recover the funds is for the Renzo platform to update the contract, which will allow the user to withdraw their tokens.
One of the developers, Yearn, added that this is a mistake that can happen to anyone, although the consequences are serious.
For reference: the Renzo platform is designed to simplify the restaking process (the process by which you can reuse your cryptocurrencies to receive even more rewards or help the network work better) on Ethereum and Solana.
