Cryptocurrency wallet with $ 1.5 million worth of digital assets found in smartphone of ex-head of the State Service for Special Communications
Ukrainian law enforcement officers have found a cryptocurrency wallet with virtual assets worth almost $ 1.5 million on the phone of former Head of the State Special Communications Service Yuriy Shchyhol. This information was announced during a meeting of the High Anti-Corruption Court, which is choosing a measure of restraint for the former official. This was reported by Fakty.
The NABU detective and the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office ask the court to take Shchyhol into custody with an alternative bail of UAH 50.23 million. The prosecutor argued that «a crypto wallet with funds in various cryptocurrencies was found in Shchyhol’s phone.»
«In particular, the cryptocurrency Tether USDT in the amount of 1,201,285 units, which as of November 20 is 1,201,928 USD,» the prosecutor said.
In addition, the crypto wallet contains 6.9 BTC, the value of which is estimated at $ 265 thousand. The total amount in cryptocurrency is $ 1.47 million.
Earlier, we reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) detained an MP during an attempt to bribe Mustafa Nayem, the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Ukraine. According to the case file, he was offered $ 50,000 in bitcoins. There is an assumption that this is a member of the Servant of the People party, Andriy Odarchenko.
