Despite numerous speculations about Nakamoto’s identity, including references to Dorian Nakamoto, Craig Wright, Nick Szabo, and Peter Todd, none of them have been confirmed. Recent claims on social media about the possibility of accessing his wealth with a 24-word seed phrase were denied by Galaxy Digital’s head of research Alex Thorne, who called it «fake news» and «meaningless nonsense.»

Early Bitcoin wallets appeared before the BIP 39 standard, which introduced 12- and 24-word seed phrases in 2013. In addition, the coins are distributed among many pay-to-public-key addresses rather than stored in a single wallet. This eliminates the possibility of a single master phrase to control the entire volume.

More serious concerns are now associated with the development of quantum technologies. CryptoQuant founder Ki Yong Ju believes that a future Bitcoin security update may require freezing «sleeping» coins to avoid the risk of quantum attacks. While modern cryptography protects against classical computers, sufficiently powerful quantum machines are theoretically capable of deriving private keys from public keys that have already appeared on the blockchain.

According to estimates, about 6.89 million BTC may be at risk, including 1.91 million BTC on public P2PK addresses and up to 4.98 million BTC from previous transactions. Approximately 3.4 million BTC have remained immobile for more than a decade, of which about 1 million belong to Satoshi Nakamoto. The issue of freezing such coins may become a subject of heated debate in the community, as well as previous disputes over network governance. At the current price of $ 68,358, Nakamoto’s fortune is estimated at about $ 75 billion.
