DeepSeek AI outperforms GPT-5 in cryptocurrency trading
Editor’s note: not financial advice!
Nof1 analysts have released the results of the Alpha Arena open benchmark, in which leading artificial intelligence models competed in cryptocurrency trading. GPT-5, Gemini 2.5 Pro, Claude Sonnet 4.5, DeepSeek V-3.1, Grok 4, and Qwen3 took part in the testing. DeepSeek and Grok 4 demonstrated the highest profitability, while ChatGPT and Gemini strategies turned out to be unprofitable.
Each model received a start-up capital of $ 10,000 in real funds to conduct cryptocurrency transactions. According to the organizers, all systems used mainly technical analysis, not taking into account news or information background that could affect the market.
The leader was DeepSeek with an unrealized profit of $ 3,650. Grok 4 took second place with a result of about $ 3000, and Claude Sonnet 4.5 earned $ 2340. Qwen3 Max finished the competition with a profit of $ 784.
At the same time, OpenAI’s GPT-5 suffered a loss of about $ 2800, and Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro lost $ 3270. Nevertheless, AI models remain popular among traders who use them to analyze altcoins and find market entry points.
Analysts note that AI tools are able to track investor sentiment and signals from social networks in real time, but cannot yet completely replace humans in offline trading. Meanwhile, Apptopia reported a slowdown in the popularity of the ChatGPT mobile app, and OpenAI is working on its own social platform similar to X.
