Director of the world’s largest hacked crypto exchange to set up a company to analyze exchange security

7:05 am, March 29, 2022

Yes, and this is not an April Fool’s joke, unfortunately. Mark Karpeles, the former CEO of the notorious Mt. Gox exchange, intends to launch the UNGOX project, which will display information on the rating and security level of cryptocurrency exchanges.

To generate analytical reports, an independent audit of key areas of activity will be conducted: compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, team, transparency of operations. Karpeles also plans to create NFT tokens, which he will distribute free of charge to his ex-team and users affected by the hack. NFT holders will get free access to all services offered by the UNGOX project.

Mt. Gox was the largest cryptocurrency exchange in 2014 and was responsible for more than half of the total cryptocurrency trading volume. The situation changed after 850,000 bitcoins were hacked and stolen from the exchange (later 200,000 BTC were returned) and the platform went bankrupt, and the former top management was repeatedly involved in scandals related to the hack.
