NFTs.com domain to be sold for $ 15 million

7:25 pm, August 4, 2022

The domain name NFTs.com has become one of the most expensive domains in the history of domains — all thanks to a $ 15 million sale.

Yesterday, an unknown buyer, who, according to the sellers, «has ties to other Web3 projects such as DigitalArtists.com, which offers curatorial services for Web3 artists,» purchased a Web2 domain name — it became the second most expensive, after Voice.com, which was bought by a crypto company for $ 30 million in 2019.

Interestingly, despite the active development of the Web3 space, no Web3 domain has ever sold for as much as Web2 domains. Thus, Ethereum-based domain names are often sold for tens of thousands of dollars. Among the highest bids, an anonymous investor offered $ 1 million for the domain of one of the world’s largest corporations, Amazon, but the owner of amazon. eth ignored the offer and it expired.

As for the popularity of ENS domain registration, the demand increased by 99% due to the approaching date of the transition to the PoS consensus mechanism. Thus, within a month, sales of ENS domains increased by 99% on the OpenSea marketplace. As a result of this increased activity, the ENS Domains platform generated 5,400 ETH (about $ 8.8 million) in revenue and 48,000 new accounts using at least one ENS name.
