Research: people don’t understand what a meta-universe is, but believe it will improve their lives
In March 2022, Wunderman Thompson Intelligence conducted a study on the awareness of people aged 16 to 65 about metaverse, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs. The agency interviewed more than 3,000 people in the US, UK, and China to find out how familiar they are with these concepts and what they think about them. The company recently shared the results.
74% of respondents have heard of the metaverse at least once, which is almost twice as high as last year. Only 15% of respondents understand what a metaverse is and can explain it to another person.
60% of those who are familiar with the concept of the metaverse believe that brands should release NFTs along with physical goods. 74% of all respondents believe that metaverse is the future.
More than 50% of people consider the metaverse as a virtual space for work, games, and shopping. 60% believe that metaverse will be the next big thing in the development of e-commerce.
The main problems of the metaverse are privacy, data protection, and cyberbullying. Only 15% of respondents understand what cryptocurrency is and are able to explain this concept to other people. Of these, 42% own or have owned digital assets before.
