Two virtual meta-universes will organize LGBT Pride this year
The annual event on June 26 in support of the LGBT community in New York will be held in metaverse. According to Matt Stevenson, one of the organizers of the event for LGBT people in virtual reality, this year’s LGBT Pride will take place on the Sandbox and Decentraland platforms.
«There are still 68 countries in the world where it is illegal to be gay. Therefore, it is very important to provide a judgment-free space where you can support the LGBT community, regardless of your physical location,» shared his point of view Matt Stevenson. The organizers of LGBT Pride in Metaverse believe that Web3 technologies will provide new opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and they will be able to feel comfortable in virtual reality.
In addition to the LGBT Pride, the Decentraland metaverse will host a series of events and discussions on topics related to support for the LGBT community and financial assistance to its members. In addition, 8430 new NFT avatars will be launched in the Sandbox metaverse to symbolize equality and free space for self-affirmation: avatars will have different skin colors, styles, gender identities, and represent members of the LGBT community.
However, not all members of the virtual community truly support LGBT people. For example, on LGBT Equality Day, streetwear brand The Hundreds staged a fake protest to advertise its NFT collection, paraphrasing slogans used by LGBT people.
