Jack Dorsey suggests creating social networks based on cryptography
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has long been promoting the idea of a «free and open protocol» for social networks. The developer still emphasizes that Twitter still has big problems. However, the former CEO of the platform believes that all of them can be leveled if optimal protection from corporate or government control is created, the right to delete tweet content is granted exclusively to the original author, and moderation of the platform’s content is implemented with the help of specially created algorithms.
«I strongly believe that any content created by someone for the Internet should remain until the original author decides to remove it. It should always be accessible and targeted. Deletion and suspension of posting are unacceptable,» Dorsey wrote in his blog.
The creator of Twitter believes that the platform under his leadership and its current appearance do not meet the principles described above. Dorsey also noted that his biggest mistake as CEO of Twitter was focusing on creating tools to manage public threads instead of creating tools that would allow users to moderate them themselves. According to the former CEO, the company was also subjected to external pressure because of this.
Dorsey shared with readers a GitHub link to a censorship-resistant open protocol that is still under development. The project, called Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted, aims to create decentralized social networks based on cryptographic keys and signatures.
excellent writeup of problems and solutions… excited to see this. and public domain: https://t.co/bCXRwQNC0p

In mid-October, Jack Dorsey announced a new stage of development of Bluesky Social, a decentralized social media project launched in 2019. According to the developer, there will be no company behind this platform that can decide what to publish — rather, there will be a market of companies that «decide what to communicate to their audience.» The decentralized protocol aims to limit corporate and government influence on social media in general.
