Edward Snowden turned out to be one of six Zcash developers

12:07 pm, April 28, 2022

Former US NSA employee Edward Snowden said that he participated in the launch of the privacy-oriented cryptocurrency ZCash in 2016. The information appeared in a video by the Zcash Media project, a channel that publishes news about this digital currency.

«My name is Edward Snowden, and I participated in the Zcash ceremony under the pseudonym John Dobbertin,» the former intelligence officer said. The ceremony refers to the process of sharing the encrypted key among the main developers of the technology and removing personal parts of the common key (this ensures the necessary reliability).

«I am very pleased that Zcash is moving towards the ideal of a true free cryptocurrency,» Snowden said. As a reminder, the Zcash network is untraceable, making it a truly anonymous way to transfer funds from one account to another.

The information about the well-known co-conspirator of the development team did not affect the coin’s price — at the time of writing, it grew by no more than 2%.
