Experts name the most popular method of cyberattacks, which threatens every user

According to cybersecurity experts, hacking user passwords is the most popular method of hacker attacks — anyone can become a victim. According to the Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2022, about 1,000 password-stealing cyberattacks occur every second in the world.

In 2022, the number of password cracking attacks increased by 74%, primarily due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, in which hackers play an important role. Thus, the Anonymous hacker group declared cyber war on the Russian government. From time to time, they publish secret information from the archives of the Russian Federation and contacts of high-ranking officials, so the representatives of the association are called «modern-day Robin Hoods.»

Password guessing is a common method of accessing any system, and the introduction of Nvidia RTX 4090 cards has made such attacks more effective. Recently, researchers demonstrated how Lovelace’s flagship was able to guess an eight-character password in 48 minutes using 200 billion variants.

At the end of October, security experts from Solidus Labs published a study of various cases of cryptocurrency fraud. The analysts found out that hackers launch about 15 scam projects every hour, but only the largest ones are reported to the general public. The main type of hacker scheme this year was liquidity withdrawal (rug pull). In 2020, experts recorded 1,541 such cases, in 2021 — 82,000, and this year the number of rug pulls has almost reached 100,000.
