Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates to discuss the future of artificial intelligence in the US Congress
Today, on September 13, one hundred US senators will listen to Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Sam Altman, and many other tech leaders on their vision of artificial intelligence development at a closed session of the Congress. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called the event the «First AI Insight Forum».
According to Voice of America, the purpose of this and a number of subsequent meetings of lawmakers and heads of technology corporations is to discuss the rapid development of AI technology and its possible threats to humanity. In particular, on the same day, the U.S. House of Representatives will hold a hearing with representatives of President Joe Biden’s administration on how federal agencies use neural networks.
The following week, the Senate will hold a series of hearings on how companies working with AI algorithms can increase transparency and public trust, as well as on legislative regulation of the industry with the participation of Microsoft and leading chipmaker Nvidia.
The Senate is also drafting a bill that includes a requirement for AI companies to register with an independent watchdog to ensure that they can be held legally accountable for privacy violations and deep-fakes. The tech giants will also be required to be transparent about the training and accuracy of AI models.
As a reminder, according to CNN, Elon Musk deliberately disconnected Starlink for the Armed Forces and disrupted a drone attack on the Russian fleet. This is stated in an excerpt from a new biography of the eccentric billionaire titled Elon Musk, adapted by Walter Isaacson.
