Emirates Airlines plans to introduce bitcoin payments

5:10 pm, May 13, 2022

Emirates Airlines, the largest airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), plans to use bitcoin as a means of payment.

This was announced by the carrier’s Chief Operating Officer Adel Ahmed Al Redha: «Emirates will soon start accepting bitcoins as payment for tickets and services.» In addition, the airline will launch its own non-fungible tokens (NFTs). To do this, the airline will start to hunt employees for metaverse destinations and NFTs.

Airports and airlines around the world are looking for ways to integrate blockchain-based technologies and crypto payments. In February 2021, Air France partnered with several organizations to create a blockchain-based system that verifies COVID-19 test results.

In March 2021, the Latvian airline airBaltic started accepting Dogecoin (DOGE) and Ether (ETH). The airline has been accepting BTC since 2014 and allows the use of other cryptocurrencies such as USD Coin (USDC), Binance USD (BUSD), and Gemini Dollar (GUSD).

And in October 2021, El Salvador’s President Nayyib Buchele announced that Volaris El Salvador would accept payments in BTC.
