The US energy system will be protected from the impact of bitcoin mining
The US White House plans to propose a law that will regulate bitcoin mining and its impact on energy and climate. It is expected that the proposal of such a bill will be published in August. According to Bloomberg Law, the government is ready for criticism from the crypto community and considers the future law necessary.
Chief Assistant to the White House Office of Science and Technology Costa Samaras said: «If cryptocurrencies are part of our financial system, it is important that this area develops responsibly and minimizes overall emissions. When we think about digital assets, we have to keep in mind climate and energy conservation.»
Interestingly, information about the need to legally regulate the impact of bitcoin mining appeared after Joe Biden signed a decree to promote the responsible development of digital assets. This may be due to American fears that bitcoin mining poses a threat to the fight against climate change.
According to Samaras, in the coming months, politicians plan to consider such factors as mining pollution, as well as compare PoS and PoW protocols.
Today, America is one of the largest crypto miners in the world. Recently, Geneious CEO Daniel Batten published a report stating that bitcoin mining using energy generated from the combustion of associated methane could reduce CO2 emissions by 5.32%.
