Cryptocurrency fan Doge buys name from Telegram for a record amount
A name associated with the cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE) has been included in the top ten most expensive Telegram usernames sold at the Fragment auction. A week ago, on November 9, an unknown user purchased the nickname @doge for 350,000 TON (about $ 554,000 at the then exchange rate). It is currently ranked eighth on the platform’s list of the most expensive names.
The purchase of unique names for TON cryptocurrency is one of the options for using the Telegraph Open Network (TON) blockchain token. The sale is carried out on the Fragment auction platform, which was launched in late October. The most expensive nickname, @auto, was sold on November 2 for 900,000 TON (about $ 1.4 million at the then exchange rate). «For the first time in the history of social media, a fair, transparent market for usernames has been created. Finally, people will have ownership of their social media addresses, which are protected by a decentralized blockchain network,» Pavel Durov wrote on his Telegram channel at the time.
It is worth noting that legally, Fragment Corp., the company that conducted the auction, is not affiliated with Telegram Messenger Inc. and is not its subsidiary. At the same time, Telegram has the right to delete a purchased nickname if it «violates the Telegram Terms of Service or the laws of certain countries.»
It should be added that at the time of writing, the TON rate was fixed at $ 0.20, the market capitalization of the digital asset was $ 36.3 million, and traders made daily deals worth $ 1 million.
As for DOGE, its price is currently $ 0.08, its market capitalization is $ 11.4 billion, and the volume of daily trading transactions is $ 90.7 million.
