The FBI has succeeded in exposing one of the largest hacking platforms in the world
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation, together with the special services of other countries, conducted a large-scale operation called Cookie Monster. The law enforcement agencies targeted the domains and infrastructure of Genesis Market, one of the most popular closed online markets for bots, stolen data, cookies, and digital fingerprints of Internet browsers. As a result of the successful cooperation of the police, dozens of searches were conducted in several countries, and more than 100 people were detained.
Genesis is considered one of the main players in the shadow Internet market. The darknet marketplace offers everyone interested access to both personal and corporate data. Law enforcement has not yet published official press releases on the results of the operation. However, if you go to one of the domains belonging to Genesis Market, you will see a message that it has been taken over by the FBI.
The test version of Genesis Market appeared back in 2017. By 2020, the platform had become one of the most popular online hacker markets. The platform administrators made money by renting out malicious bots that provided everyone with access to stolen data and confidential information.
The complete Genesis Market database included about 1.5 million bots and 2 million identities. The FBI noted that at the time of the operation, 460,000 bots were available for purchase. The platform provided access to a wide range of services, including Gmail, Facebook, Netflix, WordPress, PayPal, Zoom, etc. According to law enforcement, the information purchased on the platform was involved in more than 1 million cybercrimes around the world.
