Gas in the Middle East to be used for cryptocurrency mining
Crusoe Energy, an American company specializing in the use of burned natural gas for bitcoin mining, will start installing generators and equipment in the Omani capital Muscat. The energy generated from combustion will be used to mine BTC.
It is expected that the pilot project will be launched by the end of this year or in early 202Z. It is worth noting that this region accounts for 38% of the world’s gas flaring. This gas cannot be used for other purposes and was previously simply flared, worsening the situation with the greenhouse effect. In this case, bitcoin mining can have a positive impact on the environment.
Earlier, the Omani government signed an agreement with the World Bank to stop flaring by 20Z0 and last year invested in Crusoe, which is implementing the project. «Oman is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement,» officials said.
