Binance CEO warns that Google is promoting phishing sites aimed at stealing cryptocurrencies
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao drew the attention of the Twitter community to the fact that Google search results promote phishing sites targeting cryptocurrency users.
Google displays phishing sites when users search for CMC. This affects users adding smart contract addresses to MetaMask using these phishing sites. We are trying to contact Google for this, and in the meantime alerting users about this via social channels. pic.twitter.com/3q4860Jl4H

In his tweet, Zhao posted a screenshot showing fraudulent sites with the tag «Advertising» in the top of Google’s search results. CoinMarketCap (CMC) is one of the most popular cryptocurrency market data aggregators. Binance acquired CMC two years ago.
«This affects users who add MetaMask smart contract addresses through such phishing sites. We are trying to contact Google about this, but in the meantime, we are warning users through social media channels,» the Binance CEO wrote.
Earlier, we reported that Google reported a sharp drop in its own revenues, blaming it on the bear market. According to the financial report for the third quarter of 2022, the tech giant’s advertising revenue fell by $ 1.3 billion. «In the third quarter, we saw a decline in spending by some advertisers in certain search areas. For example, in insurance, loans, mortgages, and especially in cryptocurrencies,» said Google Chief Business Officer Philip Schindler.
