The head of Microsoft’s Xbox gaming company speaks about blockchain-based games
Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Xbox gaming division, shows interest in metaverse, but expresses doubts about games based on the Play-to-Earn model due to NFT speculations.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, the top executive noted that gamers have been in metaverse for about 30 years, but still haven’t learned to distinguish between experiences in metaverse and regular games.
«I'm not surprised that many gamers don’t understand the difference between metaverse and games. In regular games, each person also has an avatar, they can walk around in a common game space, turn on their voice, and interact with other participants from any location,» Spencer explains.
The Xbox executive noted that he remains wary of games that operate on the Play-to-Earn (P2E) principle due to speculation in the NFT market. However, he acknowledged that monetization of games has been around for many years, so there is still an interesting application for P2E games.
