SBU Head counts the number of cyberattacks carried out by Russian hackers every day

6:57 pm, February 28, 2023

Major General Vasyl Malyuk, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, told the Independent that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, the Ukrainian IT army has repelled thousands of cyberattacks.

Malyuk emphasized that the number of cybercrimes against Ukraine is growing every day. At present, the terrorist state carries out at least 10 hacker attacks every day. For comparison, in 2020, the SBU recorded only 800 cyberattacks per year, and in 2021 — about 2000. And since the beginning of the great war, the occupier’s hackers have attacked more than 4,500 times.

«These are different types of attacks, sometimes really massive, sometimes quite subtle,» said Major General Malyuk. — «Their targets are different: state resources, critical infrastructure facilities, etc. But we are successfully countering the enemy in cyberspace as well.»

It is noteworthy that the largest hacking attacks were combined with massive missile strikes. The SBU claims that energy, logistics, military infrastructure, as well as government databases and information resources were attacked. However, the occupiers did not succeed in seizing critical information, despite all the loud statements.

As a reminder, on the night of February 22−23, Russian hackers attacked a number of Ukrainian government resources. As a result of the hack, the websites of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Social Policy, the State Service of Maritime and River Transport, the State Treasury, and Motor Sich JSC were down. However, the cyber activists did not stand aside and at the same time launched a missile strike signal at Russia. It was broadcast by almost all radio stations of the terrorist state.
