Google allows the sale of cryptocurrency tokens in Play Store apps
The Google Play app store has announced a major policy change — developers will now be able to add digital assets, including NFTs, to their apps and games in the Play Store.
Companies that decide to offer the opportunity to earn, buy, or sell NFTs will have to indicate in the Play Console that the application contains blockchain-based elements. The innovation will allow partners to rethink «traditional games with user-generated content» and increase «user loyalty through unique NFT rewards,» the company said.
«We're excited to see creative opportunities flourish in apps and help developers expand their businesses,» Google representatives assured.
Earlier, Google’s policy on blockchain-based applications was characterized as a «black box». Several games, such as Bitcoin Blast, were removed from the Play Store in 2021 without a clear explanation. In 2018, Google banned cryptocurrency mining apps. This rule will not change with the innovations.
In April, the Google Cloud Blockchain Node Engine service, which allows the deployment of nodes on some blockchains, announced that it would soon add support for the Polygon second-tier solution, and even earlier it supported Solana.
Recently, Apple allowed the developer of the popular NFT game Axie Infinity Sky Mavis to place it in the App Store for Latin America and Southeast Asia.
