Google Trends: artificial intelligence is more popular than cryptocurrencies in 2023

According to the Google Trends analytical service, this year, interest in artificial intelligence was much higher than in bitcoin and altcoins.

Since 2020, search queries with the words «bitcoin» and «cryptocurrencies» have been recorded much more often than queries with the words «artificial intelligence.» However, data from Google analysts show that the situation began to change around August 2022. In November 2022, OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot was launched, and since then, artificial intelligence has been increasingly outpacing cryptocurrencies in terms of the number of queries every month.

Google scores search queries from 0 to 100 depending on the importance of the topic in the number of queries. Interest in artificial intelligence is currently estimated by Google Trends at 91 points, while interest in bitcoin is only 22 points. The flagship of the cryptocurrency market was falling for most of 2022 and only started growing in 2023.

According to Google Trends, users from El Salvador, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Brazil, the United States, and Germany showed the greatest interest in bitcoin. Google users from Japan, Vietnam, China, Ukraine, and India were most interested in artificial intelligence.

It is worth noting that the cryptocurrency of the Ukrainian developer broke the record of popularity in Google Trends. Over the past two months, the number of searches for the term Solana on Google has increased by 250%. Cryptocurrency media analyst Rebecca Stevens noted: «The price of [Solana] has been significantly higher than other assets, which has likely attracted more interest in the cryptocurrency. Recently, the network has also seen a rise in meme coins.»
