Axie Infinity players will get back the stolen $ 625 million
Sky Mavis, the company behind the popular crypto game Axie Infinity, has announced that it will reimburse players for the funds they lost after a hacker attack on the Ronin sidechain.
In their blog post, they said that the attackers used an exploit that affected Sky Mavis validator nodes. The company suffered losses of 173 600 ETH and $ 25.5 million, or more than $ 625 million in total. Most of the stolen funds still remain at the hacker'saddress, and he has managed to withdraw only 6250 ETH.
Binance, in turn, has stopped withdrawals and deposits on the Ronin network. The exchange is also assisting the Axie Infinity team in tracking transactions related to the attack.
It is worth noting that in the context of reimbursement of funds to players, the company’s promises are still based on «plans» — no clear concept of refunds has been announced by Sky Mavis yet. 1/3 of the stolen assets belonged to the company, but more than 100,000 ETH were gaming ones.
Axie Infinity is one of the largest Play2Earn games that allow participants to accumulate crypto tokens during the game, which can then be traded.
