Hackers managed to hack the largest cryptocurrency wallet manufacturer

Last night, December 14, it became known about an attack on the program code of the Ledger cryptocurrency wallet. Later, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said that the organization had blocked the address of the Ledger operator. Now he will be able to move funds in USDT.

According to the entrepreneur and one of the executives of the company that issued the stablecoin, the wallet 0×65…5c2d was almost immediately blacklisted by Tether. Currently, the blocked cryptocurrency wallet holds about $ 44 thousand in USDT. In addition, there are stETH tokens, USDC stable coin, and other assets totaling $ 412 thousand on the balance sheet.

Journalists report that the code of the Ledger crypto wallet authorization service has been compromised. Some users lost their digital assets, however, the developers managed to deal with this problem quite quickly. Company representatives said they had removed the malicious bug. Nevertheless, the vulnerability allowed attackers to steal users' funds from decentralized platforms, including Curve, SushiSwap, and others.

It is stated that the hackers replaced the genuine version of the software. During authorization in decentralized applications (dApps) through LedgerConnect, a process was launched that allowed the theft of virtual assets. The problem did not affect the software of the Ledger devices themselves.

As a reminder, Ledger is a French company specializing in the development and production of physical hardware wallets for storing cryptocurrencies. The company’s main products are Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X, portable hardware that connects to a computer or smartphone via USB or Bluetooth. It guarantees the safe storage of private keys required to access digital assets and signs transactions directly on the device.
