The ZKsync cryptocurrency project has suffered a serious hack — hackers stole tokens worth about $ 5 million by gaining access to the airdrop contract. As a result of this incident, the value of the ZK token plummeted by almost 20%.

Representatives of ZKsync confirmed the attack and explained that the hacking occurred through a compromised administrator account. At the same time, they assured users that the underlying protocol remained intact, and that their funds were safe.

The project team clarified that the attacker gained control only over unused tokens stored in the airdrop contract. They emphasized that it was an isolated case and have already taken all necessary measures to eliminate the consequences. The sharp drop in the ZK token price to $ 0.4 587 (according to CoinMarketCap) is most likely caused by the fact that the stolen tokens were sold on the market.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that ZKsync airdrops have caused dissatisfaction among the crypto community. During the token distribution in 2024, the project was already criticized for unfair distribution and insufficient protection against bots. At that time, 21 billion tokens were issued, and after they were listed on exchanges, the ZK exchange rate also collapsed by more than 20%.
