Hackers stole $ 22 million in cryptocurrency from a well-known blockchain platform
One of the leading blockchain gaming platforms, Gala Games, has fallen victim to a large-scale hack that is almost unparalleled in the crypto industry.
According to the founder of Gala Games, Eric Schirouer, hackers sold 600 million internal coins of the GALA platform worth about 5913 ETH (over $ 22 million). However, the criminal activity did not stop there. The hackers also arbitrarily created 4.4 billion additional GALA coins. The team’s prompt actions allowed them to block the attackers' account in time and cancel the account.
Shearwater noted that an unprecedented attack of this magnitude was made possible by a breach of internal security procedures that allowed the attackers to penetrate the administrative system.
Gala Games has already reported the incident to law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice, and has also engaged a «network of international authorities.» The alleged attacker has already been identified.
Founded in 2019, Gala Games positions itself as a pioneer in blockchain gaming with a Play-to-Earn model that rewards users with its own cryptocurrency for gaming activity. One of the platform’s founders, Eric Schirouyer, has extensive experience in the gaming industry, having previously co-founded Zynga, the largest online game developer.
