Hackers stole data from the developer of the most anticipated game GTA 6

Rockstar Games confirmed that some internal data became available to attackers after a third-party service was hacked. At the same time, the company emphasizes that it is a «limited amount of insignificant information» and that the incident did not affect players and the studio’s work.

The story surfaced after reports that the ShinyHunters group gained access to data through the Anodot cloud service, which Rockstar uses to control costs. The attackers didn’t directly breach the Snowflake storage security. They penetrated through integration: they received access tokens from the Anodot system and used them as a digital key to the data.

In fact, the problem was not in the storage itself, but in the access settings. If a third-party service is granted wide read rights, and then this service is hacked, the protection stops working.

ShinyHunters has already issued an ultimatum. The group demands to pay the ransom by April 14, 2026, otherwise it promises to publish the data and create additional «digital problems» for the company.

It is not yet known what exactly was stolen. Rockstar is clearly trying to reduce the degree of anxiety and make it clear that this is not a critical issue. Judging by the wording, the leak does not affect the company’s plans and is not directly related to Grand Theft Auto VI.

The studio has already had a painful experience. In 2022, more than 90 videos and images of an early version of the game were posted online. The incident became one of the largest in the gaming industry. Later, in December 2023, the first trailer of GTA 6 was leaked online a day before the official premiere, which forced Rockstar to publish the video ahead of schedule.

The new leak seems to be smaller, but the pressure from ransomware continues. While the company pretends that the situation is under control, the coming days will show whether everything will be limited to loud statements or whether the story will continue.

GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
