Hacker sends message to Ethereum founder: ready to return 18 million
As it became known today, the hacker who stole 20 million Optimism (OP) tokens and sent 1 million of these funds to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has made another transaction to Buterin’s wallet.
«Hi Vitalik, I believe you, I just want to know your opinion on this. Help me find the right address for the return and I’ll send all the remaining funds. And hey Wintermute, sorry, I only have 18 million OR left.
Stay optimistic!» the hacker wrote in a message to the transaction.
If the hacker really returns the funds to Wintermute, the crypto community will be able to consider him not a fraudster but a «white hacker» who will also receive a monetary reward and a consultant position at Wintermute, as the company promised earlier. By the way, Wintermute has admitted its mistake and promised to buy back the stolen Optimism tokens every time the hackers sell them instead of returning them peacefully.
