Hacker returns stolen cryptocurrency to user with an excess
The hacker responsible for the Euler Finance exploit suddenly returned 100 ETH to a random user. The ethereum owner had previously stated that he had lost all his savings as a result of the protocol hack. The user even addressed the criminal: «You are a legend. Congratulations on your great victory. I had money to buy a house, which my wife and I desperately needed. However, I invested everything in Euler. My wife will kill me if we don’t buy a house.»
Interestingly, the victim asked the cybercriminal to return only 75 ETH ($ 124,416 at the exchange rate of 03/16/22). However, the offender did something unexpected and sent the man 25 ETH more.
?For anyone who gets affected by the #Euler hack, watch this:
Someone (0x2a) sends a message to the hacker saying his life-saving (78 $ETH) is in @eulerfinance.
The hacker then sends him 100 $ETH.
If 0x2a is being honest, it made extra 22 $ETH back.https://t.co/esoHOofXM0 pic.twitter.com/n6iEa4PKpB— 0xScope (?. ?) (@ScopeProtocol) March 16, 2023
As a reminder, a hacker managed to steal $ 200 million of user funds in cryptocurrencies as a result of a cyberattack on the Euler Finance DeFi lending platform. By the way, the reward for revealing the identity of the cybercriminal is $ 1 million.
Earlier, the developers of the Euler Finance protocol, as well as numerous users, asked the hacker to return 90% of the stolen funds. He was offered to keep 10% as a reward for finding a bug in the code. But despite numerous requests, the attacker was unwilling to cooperate. Later, the company threatened to offer a reward for information about the identity of the cybercriminal and initiate a criminal investigation. However, this did not motivate the hacker.
