Hacker stole more than $ 300,000 from a cryptocurrency project, but returned the stolen goods in a few hours
The Olympus DAO cryptocurrency project has become another victim of a hacker attack: the attacker withdrew 30,000 OHM tokens, but returned the stolen funds a few hours later.
The reason for the return is unclear: it is likely that a «white hacker» performed the hack, or the attacker changed his mind about the funds received. The hacking took place on Friday morning, after which the developers stated:
«The hacker was able to withdraw approximately 30,000 OHM (about $ 300,000) from an OHM contract in the Bond protocol. The vulnerability was not detected during three audits or during our internal code reviews. There were also no reports of the vulnerability on the Immunefi platform.»
However, a few hours later, the Olympus team reported that all the stolen funds had been returned and that they were working with Bond Protocol to restore operations (the Bond Protocol smart contract was the cause of the hack).
It is worth noting that if the hacker had reported the vulnerability on the Immunefi platform (it was created for such purposes), he could have claimed a reward of up to $ 3.3 million.
