A hacker forced a cryptocurrency platform to give him $ 47 million
The hacker who hacked the Mango Market crypto protocol and stole about $ 115 million in cryptocurrency has begun to return the stolen funds. The company received $ 7.8 million worth of tokens, according to PeckShield, a cybersecurity company.
The hacker attacked the Mango credit protocol on the Solana blockchain earlier this week. The criminal used a scheme called the «oracle attack,» in which manipulating the price of the platform’s native token, MNGO, allowed the attacker to steal assets worth approximately $ 115 million in various tokens.
The hacker contacted the platform’s team and offered a deal. He is ready to return the tokens on the condition that they are used to cover bad debts of users. The hacker proposed to resolve the issue by voting by the end of the day on October 14. The community voted to make a deal with the hacker.
Under the agreement, the hacker was offered to return $ 67 million in cryptocurrency and keep the rest ($ 47 million) as a reward. The platform’s management assured that it would not initiate a criminal investigation in this case.
