Hackers are being motivated to return $ 190 million by promising them devalued NFT tokens
The management of the cryptocurrency startup Nomad has offered hackers a reward in the form of NFTs, which can be obtained by returning the stolen funds from the Nomad Bridge.
According to Nomad’s official Twitter account, each hacker behind the Nomad Bridge hack will receive 100 non-fungible tokens worth $ 27 each. The exclusive NFTs were created by Metagame developers, but the founder of this project said that he doubted whether such a reward would encourage hackers to return the money.
Most members of the cryptocurrency community reacted negatively to the idea: «Is this what the team came up with to solve a huge problem? Rewarding an NFT hacker?» one user tweeted. Given the scale of the theft, a reward of $ 2700 in NFTs is unlikely to interest the attackers.
As a reminder, in early August, cryptocurrency hackers hacked the Nomad Bridge token exchange and stole $ 190,000,000 (almost all of the project’s liquidity), leaving only $ 651. The Nomad Bridge exploit was different from many similar cyberattacks: funds were sent across the bridge to hundreds of cryptocurrency wallets.
