Hackers attacked Uber, gaining access to the company’s confidential data

The American company Uber Technologies has become a victim of a hacker attack — the attackers managed to hack Uber and gain access to the company’s confidential data.

According to The New York Times, the hackers attacked the platform’s internal computer systems, emails, cloud storage, and Slack server, thus gaining almost complete access to Uber Technologies' confidential data.

As security researchers found out, the attackers sent a text message to an Uber employee posing as an IT specialist. The hacker managed to convince the employee to send him the password, which allowed him to access all the company’s systems. This is not the first time that platform employees have helped attackers, even though they did not want to. Thus, hackers were able to steal $ 625 million from one of the largest games of the Play2Earn genre, Axie Infinity, thanks to spyware downloaded by one of the developers.

As for the situation with Uber, the company’s representatives commented on the incident: «Our cybersecurity team is currently looking into the matter. We are also in contact with law enforcement agencies. We will continue to publish important information about the investigation on our official page.»

A few days ago, Uber’s robot courier made headlines. The robot illegally entered a crime scene by crossing a warning tape. According to an eyewitness, the robot was deliberately driving to the side of the road where the warning tape was placed — a shooting had taken place in one of the schools. However, it is not known whether the robot was heading to a specific location to deliver an order or had no ultimate goal.
