Hackers attacked a well-known cryptocurrency exchange — users' funds are at risk

11:09 am, January 26, 2023

An unknown group of hackers has hacked the Twitter account of the cryptocurrency platform Robinhood. The attackers used the account with more than a million followers to advertise their own cryptocurrency and NFTs.

On Wednesday, Robinhood posted a message calling for the purchase of the RBH token. According to Coinbase representative Conor Grogan, at least 10 people bought the fraudulent digital asset for about $ 1000 before the post was removed. Other Robinhood social media profiles were also hacked. According to the Binance Smart Chain data shared by crypto detective ZackXBT, the fraudsters managed to steal $ 8200.

ZackXBT noted that the wallet that received the funds from the sale of RBH is listed on the Binance exchange. Binance CEO Чанпен Чжао" href="https://noworries.media/biography/chanpen-chzhao/" data-bio-id="3681">Changpeng Zhao promptly responded to the incident, saying that the account of the alleged attacker was blocked pending further investigation.

"We are aware of unauthorized posts from Robinhood's Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook profiles, which were removed within minutes. At this time, based on our ongoing investigation, we believe that the source of the incident was a third-party vendor," Robinhood commented.

It should be noted that the Robinhood platform does not have its own native token. Investors can only buy the company’s shares, which are traded on the NASDAQ stock exchange at $ 9.71.

Hacker attacks on the Twitter accounts of well-known companies to post phishing links have become a common scheme of crypto fraudsters. Back in September 2022, hackers hacked the account of the Nigerian Business Day news outlet and published an announcement of a digital asset giveaway on behalf of the largest bitcoin owner, MicroStrategy CEO Сейлор" href="https://noworries.media/biography/majkl-dzh-sejlor/" data-bio-id="3672">Michael Saylor. Later, a similar situation occurred with the Brazilian office of PwC, an international consulting company that is part of the Big Four: the purpose of hacking the company’s Twitter account was to post phishing links with an alleged distribution of XRP tokens.
