Hackers impersonating NVIDIA have developed a fake 50,000 bitcoin raffle

9:15 pm, July 14, 2022

Security experts have warned the crypto community about a new fraudulent scheme: hackers impersonating the largest American graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA are urging users to take part in a raffle in honor of the company’s alleged 30th anniversary, and promise 50,000 bitcoins as the main prize.

According to experts, in order to participate in the draw, users have to pay an organizational fee, which the fraudsters promise to return in double amount immediately after registration (and this does not include the 50,000 BTC prize). The researchers found out that the fraudsters' cryptocurrency wallet has received 0.42 BTC (over $ 8,000) so far, but the fraudsters themselves could have sent the money to make the draw more «believable.»

As a reminder, security experts have recently discovered a new fraudulent scheme using the YouTube platform: attackers leave comments under popular videos advertising a fake cryptocurrency exchanger. The fraudsters promise a «profitable» cryptocurrency exchange, «ten times better than on other platforms.» Also in early July, it became known about a new crypto virus called PennyWise that is spreading on YouTube. The virus is aimed at stealing confidential browser data and wallet passphrases and intercepting transactions.
