Hackers rob Bill Murray’s cryptocurrency wallet, stealing $ 174,000 raised for a sick child
Cryptocurrency hackers have robbed the wallet of Hollywood actor Bill Murray, which contained funds raised for a sick child — the attackers stole $ 174,000.
As it became known, the unpleasant incident occurred immediately after the end of the charity NFT auction, 100% of the proceeds from which were to be used to treat a seriously ill child. In total, the auction managed to raise 119.2 WETH ($ 185,000), of which 110 WETH ($ 174,000) were stolen by hackers.
Last evening Bill's wallet was hacked in a coordinated effort by hackers that stole the funds raised in the auction. We will not stand for that. We're raising funds to support Evelyn and all the other recipients whose lives we intended to change.https://t.co/VWshJosFl0 pic.twitter.com/BKwvigEoTJ

However, the child received the promised funds for treatment — one of the bidders donated $ 174,000 to compensate for the damage. According to Bill Murray’s representatives, if the hackers decide to return the stolen money, it will be added to the total amount of donations.
It is worth reminding that it was at this auction that the NFT that allows you to have a beer with Bill Murray was sold. The token is part of the NFT collection dedicated to the life and career of Bill Murray. Each non-fungible token is a photo of the actor and a story from his life, with a total of 1000 NFTs available for purchase (only 82 tokens have been issued so far). According to Bill Murray’s son, offline meetings with NFT holders will be held twice a year, with the Hollywood actor also present.
