3:37 pm, August 31, 2023

Yesterday, on August 30, a hacker group called Anonymous Sudan disabled the social network X (formerly Twitter) in more than ten countries. The goal was to put pressure on the platform’s CEO, Elon Musk.Thehackers demanded that the billionaire launch his Starlink servicein their country, BBC reports. In total, X did not work for more than two hours.

«Pass our message to Elon Musk:«Open Starlink in Sudan,» the hackers wrote on their Telegram page. The journalists noted that X is the latest victim of a hacker group that «works for the good of Sudan and Islam.»

One of the group’s members , whocalls himself Crush, told the BBC that Tuesday’s attack «flooded X’s servers with a huge amount of traffic to disable themAccording to the journalists, Anonymous Sudan is known for such «clumsy and primitive» exploit methods.

Another member of the hacker group, Hofa, said that the so-called DDoS attack was aimed at «raising awareness of the civil war in Sudan, which makes the Internet very bad and it goes down quite often for us

Downdetector, a website outage tracker, reported that users in the United States and the United Kingdom registered nearly 20,000 reports of X outages. However, analysts believe that a much larger number of users were affected.

X has not publicly acknowledged the outage, and Musk himself has not commented on the hackers' demands to launch his satellite Internet in Sudan.

Earlier, the hacker group Anonymous Sudan was repeatedly accused of working for Russian terrorists, in particular, the Kremlin. In June, during the Wagner PMC rebellion, the hackers officially declared their support for the Russian government.
