Hackers from North Korea will cause another tightening of sanctions

11:43 am, June 29, 2022

Cryptocurrency attacks facilitated by North Korea are helping to finance its weapons of mass destruction, said Brian E. Nelson of the U.S. Treasury Department during his recent visit to South Korea.

The official held a series of meetings with representatives of intelligence and economic security agencies, after which he said that the sanctions imposed on North Korea would be reviewed in the near future and that they would be strengthened.

In March of this year, the Ethereum Ronin sidechain, which powers the popular Axie Infinity game, a money-making game, was hacked to the tune of more than $ 620 million in cryptocurrency. According to the FBI, the money was stolen by the Lazarus group, after which the funds were withdrawn through Tornado Cash.
