Hackers infect Windows and Android with ChatGPT chatbot

10:16 pm, February 25, 2023

Attackers are spreading viruses under the guise of desktop versions of the ChatGPT chatbot from OpenAI, researchers have found.

Hackers create websites that spread viruses under the guise of the desktop version of the ChatGPT chatbot for Windows and Android. Cyber security researcher Dominic Alvieri was the first to point this out on Twitter.

To gain the trust of users, the attackers even created fake pages on social networks and gained several thousand subscribers. Alvieri also drew attention to the fact that the malicious application appeared in the Google Play marketplace under the name ChatGPT Chatteo AI Chat GPT.

Cyble experts claim that attackers spread viruses through the chatgpt-go website [.]online. Instead of using a chatbot, users download software that steals data from the clipboard. Fraudsters also steal credit card data through openai-pc-pro[.]online under the guise of a chatbot subscription. Cyble estimates that there are currently at least 50 viruses impersonating ChatGPT.

It is worth reminding that the recently emerged popular artificial intelligence helps not only ordinary people but also hackers.
