Hackers hacked The Sandbox metaverse’s Instagram account
According to security experts PeckShieldAlert, cryptocurrency hackers have hacked the Instagram account of The Sandbox meta-universe, and the platform’s representatives urged users not to interact with the page.
As it became known, the fraudsters posted a phishing link in the description of the hacked profile of The Sandbox, which users can click on to lose their funds. The account hack was confirmed by The Sandbox representatives, who said that they are currently working on restoring access. However, until there is an official announcement from The Sandbox about the return of the account, users were urged not to interact with the metaverse’s Instagram page.
As a reminder, attacks on social media platforms have become a frequent occurrence. Earlier this week, hackers hacked the Twitter account of the Brazilian office of the international consulting company PwC, a member of the Big Four. The attackers, on behalf of Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, published a post about a «grand event» where users would be able to get the cryptocurrency XRP for free. The tweet contained a phishing link, which users clicked on and risked losing their cryptocurrency savings by connecting their cryptocurrency wallet.
In addition to Twitter and Instagram, hackers are also attacking YouTube. Thus, today it became known that fraudsters created a fake YouTube channel for Apple, where they launched a fake live broadcast with a phishing link in the description. Since only a few hours had passed since the iPhone 14 presentation on the fake channel, the fraudsters managed to bring the video to the top of YouTube search results.
