Gaming giants support blockchain gaming despite a flurry of criticism

The largest game manufacturers in Japan are set to introduce blockchain games, and even those gamers who oppose the use of cryptocurrencies and NFTs will not be able to influence them. This was stated by Ryo Matsubara, a representative of the Oasys gaming blockchain.

The manager emphasized that the project’s well-known partners Bandai Namco, Sega, and Square Enix see blockchain gaming as a long-term prospect. «We have a common vision of blockchain. Gaming companies do not want to change this policy, they really see the future in blockchain implementation. They are not just thinking about profits, but want to create a new future for gaming,» Matsubara said.

The gaming company Bandai Namco has developed such well-known games as Tekken and Pac-Man, in turn, the gaming giant Sega created the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog, while Square Enix is the developer of the popular Final Fantasy franchise. Matsubara suggested that the companies will not integrate blockchain technology into their current game franchises — they plan to develop completely new blockchain games first. The Oasys representative noted that since this is a new model of games, it «needs more time to mature» before large Japanese companies consider integrating blockchain into traditional games.

In turn, the head of the Microsoft Xbox gaming company is negative about blockchain-based games — Phil Spencer expresses doubts about Play-to-Earn games due to speculations with NFTs. The top manager noted that gamers have not learned to distinguish between experiences in metaverse and regular games. And last week, Ubisoft CEO apologized for the company’s attempt to integrate NFT tokens without players' permission.
