Indian state issues diplomas on the Polygon blockchain

9:23 am, August 5, 2022

The Indian state of Maharashtra will issue over 100,000 verifiable diplomas to students on the Polygon blockchain.

The project was created jointly by the Maharashtra State Skill Development Board (MSBSD) and the Maharashtra State Innovation Society (MSINS) using the LegitDoc platform.

«The project aims to digitize the diplomas and transcripts that MSBSD issues to nearly 100,000 students annually. This has been achieved by creating tamper-proof PDFs of digital diplomas that are secured on the Polygon Blockchain,» commented Neil Martis, co-founder of LegitDoc.

Interestingly, the board has not been able to issue online diplomas before, and this is the first attempt to digitize educational certificates.

According to Martis, blockchain-based diplomas provide the highest level of data security, confidentiality, and transparency compared to conventional online certificates.

Previously, MSBSD only issued printed grades and diploma certificates.

«Issuing hard copies of certificates to students usually required the involvement of more than 1,000 employees across the entire chain of educational institutions. This procedure takes about a month. That’s why our project was used to automate the process and eliminate all kinds of manual intervention, which was inefficient,» said the co-founder of LegitDoc.

It is worth noting that Maharashtra is already using blockchain to issue caste certificates and COVID vaccination certificates.
