BAYC’s Instagram and Discord NFT collections hacked, $ 13 million stolen

The hackers stole access to BAYC’s social media accounts and then posted a fake link to the OthersideMeta metaverse that had supposedly opened. Many users believed it, as the Otherside platform was indeed scheduled to launch at the end of this week.

Clicking on the link led users to a phishing site that offered NFT minting. Users who accepted the contract lost their collectible tokens.

It is already known that 24 Bored Apes and 30 Mutant Apes totaling $ 13.7 million were stolen. According to other estimates, about 90 tokens may have been stolen.

The co-founder of BAYC spoke on the matter and said that the team would contact the affected users. It is known that a full report on the attack will be released soon. The BAYC representative emphasizes that the project’s Instagram account has 2FA protection enabled and that the security methods are the strictest. In this case, it is unclear how the Instagram and Discord profiles were hacked.
