IT blogger exposes hacker arrested by FBI
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has seized two non-fungible tokens (NFTs) worth more than $ 100,000 and 86.5 ETH in a sting operation.
The alleged hacker in question, Chase Senecal, known online as Horror (HZ), was exposed during a lengthy investigation conducted by independent blockchain detective and blogger ZachXBT, who published his findings last September.
The FBI’s official announcement, released on February 3, stated that the fraudster’s property, which also included a $ 41,000 Audemars Piguet (AP) Royal Oak watch, was «forfeited to the government for violation of federal law.»
The FBI report does not provide much other information about this event, other than that all the property was seized on October 24. Specific NFTs include the Bored Ape Yacht Club #9658 and Doodle #3114 tokens, which were valued at $ 95,495 and $ 9,361, respectively, at the time of the seizure.
At the time of the arrest, 86.5 ETH were valued at $ 116,433, but at the time of writing, their value was already $ 144,000.
Although the FBI has not issued an official response or thanked ZachXBT, a blogger who works on similar cases noted on Twitter on February 3 that «the seizure of the property was a result of its investigation.»
