IT specialist is enslaved on a cryptocurrency farm
Kazakh police have uncovered an underground network of mining farms. In addition to illegal cryptocurrency mining, the criminals held an IT specialist in labor slavery.
As it became known, a group of Kazakhstani criminals used blackmail and threats to force the IT specialist to maintain the mining facilities. The underground business brought the fraudsters a profit of $ 300,000 — $ 500,000.
Law enforcement officers managed to arrest 23 criminals, including high-ranking officials, whose names are currently unknown. During the searches, the police seized 6,000 different mining machines and firearms.
Kazakhstan is not the only country where law enforcement has discovered an underground crypto farm. Recently, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the liquidation of an underground mining farm near Kharkiv that was stealing electricity in the frontline areas of eastern Ukraine. According to law enforcement officials, during the searches, investigators found mining equipment, which became one of the key pieces of evidence of criminal activity. The pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
